Judgement Of The Hypocrites | Romans 2:1-5

The Text Romans 2:1-5 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

Some Thoughts Another way God has revealed Himself to us is through our conscience. We are without excuse because we are able to judge the difference between right and wrong, but we do not have the power to stop doing wrong ourselves.

It's interesting that many who will not follow Jesus, no matter what label the put on themselves, are quick to cite Matthew 7:1-3 "Judge not lest ye be judged" when their wrongdoing is shown, but have no problem pointing out all the flaws and failures of everyone else. For a fuller treatise on the Judge not passage, you can see my message on You Be The Judge

The whole point of the passage isn't to tell people to avoid judging others, only that if you have enough sense to know when someone else has done wrong, then you should know that you are also already condemned by your own wrongdoings.

Just because God hasn't judged you already, don't take that as a sign that judgment isn't coming. During our lives, God is patient with us, giving us ample opportunity to repent of our sins and turn to Him. God's love and mercy is eternal, but so is His justice and holiness. Salvation is only available to us while we are still alive , once we die physically, our spiritual condition is sealed.
