Where Are You At?
Becoming a follower of Christ doesn't make all of your problems go away. In fact, the power of the Holy Spirit can make the sins in your life more evident to you. Without the renewing of your mind through Gods word, this can leave you in a bind of focusing more on lifes issues than on the God over all of lifes issues.
Why the "Where Are You At" questionere?
If you haven't taken the time to look at my generic "where are you at" questionere, you can click on a link for it in the right hand margin.
While Jesus walked the earth, he was able to point out issues in peoples lives by looking at their heart, such as the woman at the well who was living in adultry, the woman about the be stoned, the rich young ruler, the Pharasees, ect.
I am unlike Jesus in that I can't look into peoples heart (mind) and read them like a book. Since I am limited in my insight to people, I have to ask probing questions, and these generic questions that I've asked can provide insight to peoples walk with God, their dealings with money, their relationships with friends and marital issues.
What to do with the questions
The immediate answers to the questions are irrelevant to be honest. They are all feelings oriented questions and as humans, our feelings about subjects change from season to season. What these question do, however, is provide talking points about issues that are common. The ratings show how strongly a person feels about the issues or can show how a couple may be on different pages on subjects.
Each time a disciple answers a where are you at type questionere, you will be provided material that they have given you to craft a response and action plan in the Addressing Issues phase of this cycle.
Addressing the issues
Gathering the information is good, but just knowing what issues are present is not enough. Giving biblical advice is necessary to start crafting a biblical mindset and biblical action plan. Sometimes this will be an easy process and sometimes this will be a hard trial and error process.
Remember that there are thing that we can know for certain in the Bible, and there are things that we can infer from what we know for certain in the Bible. Sometimes you have to be honest with the disciple and tell them that you're not 100% sure about something but "if it were me"... and then give them your opinion and the reason for your opinion.
While we should continually be in the Word as our guide, be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Luke chapter 12 talks about acknowledging Christ before men and althought this is specifically talking about testifying before the courts I think it also applies in other difficult circumstances.
"do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say"
